Privacy Policy

Overview

Ergo Sum ("we", "us", "our") builds apps designed to respect your privacy. We do not sell your data, we do not show advertisements, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. What each app collects, and why, is described below. This policy covers all apps published by Ergo Sum, including Midnight Society and Aerie.

Midnight Society

Midnight Society is an online multiplayer game. This section explains what it collects, why, and how to delete it.

Your account. The first time you open Midnight Society, the app creates an anonymous account for you automatically. This account is a random identifier. It is not tied to your email, phone number, or any sign-in credential, and we never ask you to create a username or password. The account persists between launches so the app can remember your profile and let you rejoin your games.

What we store. We use Supabase, our hosting and database provider, to run multiplayer games. Tied to your anonymous account, we store:

  • Your profile: the display name you choose and your avatar (an icon and color, plus an optional photo you upload).
  • Your gameplay data: the rooms you create or join, your seat, your role and actions during a game, your votes, and game results.

Avatar photos are visible to other players. If you upload a profile photo, it is stored so other players in your games can see it. Avatar images are served from a public web address, which means anyone who has the image link can view them. Please do not upload a photo you want to keep private.

Analytics. We use PostHog to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. We record events such as opening the app, creating or joining a room, and starting or finishing a game, along with your app version and your device and operating system information. This is associated with your anonymous account identifier. We do not use it for advertising.

Crash and diagnostic reporting. We use Sentry to receive crash reports and performance information so we can fix problems. A crash report may include a screenshot of the app and a description of the screen at the time of the crash. This is associated with your anonymous account identifier.

Local network. To help you find a game being hosted nearby, the app can advertise and browse for a short room code over your local network using Apple's Bonjour technology. Only the room code and a host name are shared this way. No gameplay data travels over the local network.

Purchases. In-app purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment information. The app keeps a record of what you have unlocked on your device.

Service providers. We share data with these providers only to operate the app: Supabase (hosting, database, file storage, and accounts), PostHog (analytics), Sentry (crash and diagnostic reporting), and Apple (in-app purchases). We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone for their own purposes.

Deleting your data. You can delete your account and all of the data we hold for you from inside the app. Open Settings and choose Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, your display name, your uploaded avatar photo, your room memberships and game records, and your anonymous account, and it signs you out on your device. Deleting the app from your device alone does not delete the data we hold on our servers, so use Delete Account if you want your data removed.

Aerie

Data stored on your device: All thoughts and notes are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to our servers.

Third parties: Aerie does not share data with any third-party services, analytics providers, or advertisers.

Data deletion: Deleting the app removes all stored data. No server-side deletion is necessary.

Across All Our Apps

  • We do not sell your data.
  • We do not serve advertisements.
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites.
  • We use the data we collect only to operate and improve our apps.

Children's Privacy

Our apps are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of our apps after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
