Midnight Society
An online multiplayer social deduction game for 3 to 12 players. Every player needs an internet connection. Friends on the same WiFi network can find your game automatically, and anyone else can join with your room code.
System Requirements
- iOS: 26.0 or later
- Devices: iPhone and iPad (universal)
- Network: An internet connection is required, on WiFi or cellular.
Getting Started
Make sure every player has an internet connection. One person creates a game as the host and shares the room code. Everyone else joins by entering that code, or by tapping the host's game in the nearby list if they are on the same WiFi network. Once everyone is in, the host starts the game.
A typical game lasts about 10 to 20 minutes and runs through several phases: role reveal, night, discussion, voting, and results.
The host sets the discussion length before starting the game. Five minutes is the default.
Multiplayer & Connectivity
How does multiplayer work?
Games run on our servers, so every player needs an internet connection. The host creates a game and shares a room code, and the other players enter that code to join.
What is the nearby list?
A shortcut, so nobody has to type a code. Players on the same WiFi network can see the host's game listed and join with one tap. It is a convenience for finding a game, not how the game itself connects. The room code always works.
Do I need Bluetooth?
No. Midnight Society connects over the internet, on WiFi or cellular. Bluetooth is not used.
A game is not showing up in the nearby list.
Nearby discovery needs everyone on the same WiFi network, with Local Network permission granted in Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network. If the game still does not appear, ask the host for the room code and enter it directly. That works on any connection.
Someone dropped out mid-game.
The game is held on our servers rather than on any one phone, so a player who loses connection can resume where they left off. Their device catches up to the current state on its own.
In-App Purchases
Midnight Society is free to play. Five expansion roles can be unlocked separately, each a one-time purchase of $7.99 (USD):
- Acolyte: Serve the Marked in secret.
- Doomsayer: Win by losing.
- Patron: Know everyone beneath you.
- Sentinel: Find an ally.
- Sleepwalker: Check your card after the swaps.
Only the host needs to own a role. When a host adds one to their game, everyone at that table plays with it, and nobody else has to buy it. Roles are dealt at random, so owning a role does not guarantee being dealt it in any particular game.
These are non-consumable purchases tied to your Apple Account. If you have bought a role before, use Restore Purchases on the same screen to get it back on a new device.
Data & Privacy
Midnight Society is an online game, so some of your data is stored on our servers. We do not sell it, and we do not share it for anyone else's advertising.
- Your account: The app creates an anonymous account for you the first time you open it. There is no username or password, and we never ask for an email address.
- Profile data: Your name, avatar symbol, avatar color, and optional photo are stored on our servers, so the other players in your game can see them.
- Game data: The rooms you join and the games you play are stored on our servers, tied to your anonymous account.
- Analytics and crash reports: We use PostHog to understand how the app is used and Sentry to diagnose crashes.
- Purchases: Which roles you have unlocked is recorded on our servers, so your unlocks follow you to any device you sign in on.
- Deleting your data: Use Delete Account in Settings. Deleting the app on its own removes only what is on the device, not what we hold on our servers.
